ABOUT PANAMBI

PANAMBI is an organization that advocates for trans rights in Paraguay since 2007. It focuses on the areas of health and education as well as on raising awareness about transphobic violence, human trafficking, and sexual abuse and exploitation.

ACTIONS

In 2013, PANAMBI carried out a national campaign to document and raise awareness about hate crimes against trans people in Paraguay. It produced a report on these crimes that it then presented at a thematic hearing before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and at a public hearing with the government of Paraguay.

PANAMBI successfully advocated for the adoption of a Protocol on the Treatment of Trans Inmates (Resolution 744 of the Justice Ministry) meant to improve how authorities treat trans suspects.

PANAMBI also successfully advocated for the adoption of Health Ministry Resolution 695, which guarantees that all healthcare professionals will respect and use the chosen names of trans individuals.

PANAMBI sits on a government roundtable with representatives of all three branches of the Paraguayan government dedicated to promoting trans people’s human rights.

PANAMBI produces annual reports on the human rights situation of trans people in Paraguay.

PANAMBI opened the Center for Trans Reports (Centro de Denuncias Trans) where we receive reports of human rights violations against trans people.
